Nationals of the East African community need neither visa nor entry permits to enter the United Republic of Tanzania.

If you are not a citizen of any of the above countries, you must obtain a visa in advance to enter the United Republic of Tanzania, particularly if you are proceeding to Tanzania from a country where there is a Tanzania Embassy, High Commission or Consulate to issue visas.

Exceptions

Visitors from a country where there is no Tanzania Embassy, High Commission or Consulate to issue visas, nor can they easily obtain such a visa from a nearest Tanzania Visa Office in their region, can proceed to Tanzania and obtain a visa at one of the four points of entries in Tanzania. These are: –

  • Dar-es-Salaam International Airport (DIA)
  • Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA)
  • Zanzibar International Airport (ZIA)
  • Namanga border crossing point, between Tanzania and Kenya.

The granting of a Tanzanian Visa is, in effect, only a form of pre-entry clearance. It does not guarantee permission to enter Tanzania. The immigration Officer reserves the right to grant or deny admission. Visa holders are subject to normal Immigration control at the port of entry. They should therefore carry with them, for possible presentation to Immigration officers, the documents submitted with their applications.
